The demolition of the spa centre

Demolition of buildings continuing in Tashkent
Uznews.net – A number of buildings are being demolished around Chorsu Hotel and the Zhar sport facility in the centre of Tashkent and they will be replaced with a car park.

Among the buildings that are being demolished are a spa centre that was built in the 1970s and included several types of baths and saunas, a chemist, dry cleaner, a three-storey shop and a restaurant.

The person who is supervising the demolition is so frightened that he refused to disclose his name or the name of the construction company that is involved in this enterprise.

Builders are destroying these buildings to clear up a plot of land covering one hectare in front of the Zhar sport facility, used by Tashkent’s Bunyodkor FC as
A site for a car park
training ground. However, they said they did not know what would be built on this site.

District and city authorities refused to provide any information about their plans for the site.

Uznews.net learnt from city taxi drivers that a car park would be built on the site to prevent traffic jams during football matches at the Zhar stadium.

This information was confirmed by the Tashkent city architecture department’s Avaz Sadykov.

“The spa was an inseparable part of Tashkent’s appearance. And all this is being destroyed for good. It is very regrettable,” said retired builder Igor Ignatyev who was involved in the construction of the spa centre.

The demolition has raised concerns about decent compensations that, according to legislation, should be offered to owners of buildings before demolition.

Local residents said that the owner of the shop could not put up with his losses and had already died. There is almost no hope that owners will receive decent compensations from the city authorities after the demolition of their properties.
